WHAT TO EXPECT

We won’t miss a beat

You’ve signed the contract, paid the retainer fee and now have an awesome DJ company for your event. Now what? In the months leading up to your event, we’ll send you reminder emails guiding your next steps. Here’s a quick preview:

» 3 Months Out

You’ll receive an email directing you to our online Tools page, where you can fill out our planner, make music requests and make payments toward your event fee.

» 2 Months Out

Same as above.

» 1 Month Out

You’ll receive an email inviting you to set up an initial consultation with your DJ to go over the details of your event.

» Final Consultation

We prefer to do our final consultations one month before your event or no later than two weeks before. Before the final meeting with your DJ, it’s important that you have filled out our planning form and have submitted any song suggestions. During this meeting, we’ll go over the flow of your event, how to pronounce names for announcements, and songs you definitely do and don’t want to hear at your event.

» 1 Week Out

You’ll receive an email reminder that your balance is due the week before your event.

» Day of Event

We typically set up our equipment two hours before the start of the contracted time. We prefer to be close to a designated power outlet and close to the dance floor. We also ask that your guests are not seated in front of our speakers. (They’ll be happier that way, trust us.)

Why hire a DJ instead of a band?

A DJ requires a simpler, less expensive set-up that allows you more flexibility as the host of an event. DJs can deliver witty and stylish (and even outlandish) presentations, or they can blend into the background to add a quiet air of sophistication to any environment. DJs aren’t at all high maintenance and often work without taking breaks. Perhaps the best thing of all is that DJs ensure the music you love is exactly the music you’ll get.

When should we book a DJ?

We recommend that you reserve a DJ at least six months before your event, but Active Entertainment is able to accommodate some last-minute calls, so please contact us at your earliest convenience.

Will the DJ play requests?

Absolutely; as long as the client says it is OK for the DJ to take requests. Active Entertainment helps its customers devise appropriate and engaging presentations. As long as requests don’t interrupt the flow of that plan, a DJ is happy to honor requests from the audience.

Will the DJ play music a client provides?

Of course. Active Entertainment highly recommends that its clients provide our DJs with the songs they would most like to hear. That makes our job easier, and guarantees our customers’ satisfaction.

Will the DJ work overtime?

When overtime hours are not negotiated before an event, Active Entertainment cannot guarantee that a DJ’s services are available past the contracted time. However, the company strives not to book events too close to each other so that a DJ can stay late if needed. Active Entertainment charges $150 for each hour of overtime.

What are the terms for payment?

The company accepts cash, Visa/Mastercard/Discovery/AMEX, checks payable to Active Entertainment and PayPal via our website.

What backup plan is in place should something go wrong?

In the event that unforeseen and last-minute trouble occurs, Active Entertainment’s professional relationships with an array of local DJs and equipment providers will help ensure that your event runs according to plan.

What music medium do you use?

For the best sound quality, Active Entertainment uses Serato Scratch Live and Serato DJ software (MP3).

What type of equipment do you use?

Active Entertainment uses only the best in DJ equipment and technology, including Pioneer MIDI players and mixers, Rane mixers, Technics Turntables, Shure microphones, JBL self powered speakers, Odyssey cases, Hosa cables and Apple Computers. All lighting and special effects are provided by ADJ and Chauvet.

What will the DJ wear?

Our DJs wear clothing that fits the theme and tone of your event and, if requested, will display their wardrobes for prior approval. Our DJs wear only suits for all corporate events and weddings.

How long has Active Entertainment been in business?

Owner and operator Jason Tatum has been DJing special events since 1995. He formed Active Entertainment in 2000.

Will the DJ we meet prior to getting married be the DJ at our wedding?

Part of a great wedding reception is the relationship between the DJ and the bride & groom. Unless there is a schedule conflict, the DJ you meet with is the DJ that will be at your event.

How many weddings do you DJ a year?

We provided our DJ services for almost 300 weddings last year and dozens more corporate and private events.

What makes your DJs different than others?

All of our DJs have over 5+ years of experience. They all know the art of mixing music, beat matching and reading a crowd. Each DJ is personable, friendly and approachable. Their main goal is to make sure you and your guests are happy. We guarantee the DJ that you book with is the DJ that will be at your event. Active Entertainment uses only the best in DJ technology and we simply know how to rock a party!

What happens if I (the client) cancel?

The retainer fee is non-refundable, and if you cancel within 60 days prior to your event, the entire balance is due.
